Episode: 13
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 10th June

Trevor makes the most of his opportunity in one of the world’s most beautiful Garden, the gardens of Claude Monet, the impressionist master.

  • Claude Monet is one of the most famous painters in history - an impressionist master and interpreter of the world around him.
  • From 1883, until his death in 1926, Monet lived in these gardens in France, where he built a small home that served as the scene for his most famous works.
  • Each flower;’s colour and placement was chosen for its ability to glow in the sunlight. For 43 years he focused on colour, which he personally and continually changed and improved in the garden layouts, even though he had seven gardeners to support his visions of grandeur.
  • Claude Monet did not like organised nor constrained gardens, marrying flowers according to their colours and leaving them to grow freely.
  • In his last 30 years, Monet created many of his most memorable works, and during this productive period, his paintings focused almost exclusively on his Giverny gardens, the pond, and his beloved water lilies.
