Story Title: Wetting Agents
Episode 10: WA's Great Gardens
Date: 12 December 2010
Presenter: Chris Ferreira
Have you wondered how much water is actually getting to your plants? Chances are your plants are not getting as much as you think. Chris shows you how your garden can survive in one of the world's toughest gardening climate.
Chris's Tips and Facts
- A significant amount of household water is used on the lawn. To make sure your lawn is making the most out of the water you apply you should apply a soil wetting agent.
- Apply wetting agents to lawns and gardens in mid spring and again in mid summer. This will help you prevent chronic drought stress, patchiness and weeds.
- Always water in wetting agents thoroughly, Firstly wet the area of lawn you want to treat, then spread or spray the wetting agent and then, most importantly water it in thoroughly. Wait half an hour then scratch the surface, if it is wet right through congratulations! You have broken the back of the problem. If it is still dry repeat the process because some spots are notoriously stubborn and need a lot of work.
- To make the most of your wetting agent apply soil improvement and mulch.
