Garden Centre of the Week: Warran Glen Garden Centre and Cafe

Presenter: Melissa King
Episode: 21 (15 September 2007)

Warran Glen is one of the Gurus favourite garden centres in the whole world. It is a great place to bring the kids, there’s an incredible range of plants and the staff make you feel right at home. There’s also a real emphasis on service and quality.

From the moment you walk through the gates at Warran Glen you know you’re up for something unique. Art and Gardens go hand in hand and you’ll know they’re natural companions when you see their original steel sculptures from the award winning Lump sculpture studio. They look fantastic and although they look great during the day, at night they become truly extravagant and provide a spectacular light show.

These Australian made and designed light features are called Le Femme and Fire and are a funky addition to the garden.

Speaking of funky, about the trendiest thing you can do right now is to grow your own veggies, so you know how they are grown and what you’re eating. The funky fresh kitchen range features everything from easy to harvest salad varieties to the traditional and unique Chioggia beetroot.
If you’re a virgin vegetable grower, you’ll love this range because the label is jam-packed with easy growing info.

Another hot trend for spring is cool water features and you don’t need a lot of space. You can transform a small bowl, even window boxes and hanging baskets, into your own aquatic Garden of Eden.

They are really simple to put together, all you need is a good aquatic planting mix which is also fantastic for improving water quality in the base of ponds and aquariums. You will then need the right palette of plants and to keep your plants healthy, Warran Glen has fish friendly water tablets.

Keeping your water features clean and healthy is easy with the help from a couple of brilliant products available at Warran Glen. Firstly there is the ‘Clearpond Clarity Pressure Filter’, it’s really easy to set up and if you come to Warran Glen and buy any clarity filter you’ll get a maintenance pack free.
Gadget number 2 is the ‘Pontec Pondomatic’. It’s essentially a vacuum cleaner for ponds. It sucks up leaves and muck into a bag and then re-circulates water back into the pond so there’s no wastage.

While at Warran Glen you can check out some great design ideas to spruce up your outdoor room and for a true garden to table experience finish your day at Warran Glen on the Café balcony.
