Have a Grow Herbs

Presenter: Judy Horton
Episode: 21 (15 September 2007)

Yates is running a great competition this spring and there’ll be 700 happy winners of Yates Have a Grow garden packs. It’s really easy to enter. Just buy any Yates product, visit the Yates website www.yates.com.au and follow the competition directions.

While you’re in the website, check out one of the easy-to-follow garden projects such as the one that tells you how to create your own herb garden.

Start with a pot and top quality potting mix. Pot up a focal plant such as rosemary in the middle of the pot, and then sprinkle some Yates herb seeds around the perimeter. Water gently and keep moist while the seedlings are germinating.

When the baby plants appear, start feeding them every week with some Thrive Soluble Plant Food. This will make sure they grow strongly. If you end up with too many plants, you’ll have to be tough and pull some out so the others have room to grow.

Herbs are very versatile. While chiefly grown to season foods, herbs can also be used for oils, fragrances, cosmetics, potpourris as well as being recognised for their healing properties. All of this and decorative too! Plant a few fresh herbs close to the kitchen and enjoy the natural and healthy way to add spice and flavour to a meal. They look great in a pot and make good companion plants.
