Mothers Day at your Local Garden Centre

Presenter: Dean Boone

If you have not picked mum something up for Mothers Day tomorrow then yhy not visit your local garden centre because they are bursting with ideas that your mum is just going to love! How about potted colour, a special new release rose, a lush green indoor plant, a book on gardening, some garden tools, or a hamper of goodies? All of them make great gifts.

Garden centres make a great day out, so if you can’t buy her something before you visit, take her somewhere she can choose something for herself.

Great gift ideas for Mothers Day are hanging baskets, they are becoming really fashionable and there are many different plants that you can put in them, like the Million Bell (Calibrachoa Hybrid Cultivar, ‘Million Bells Series’). It comes in huge range of colours, white, pinks, dark pinks and apricots. Dean loves million bells plants because of how much they flower and last for months and months.

At your local garden centre there are plants for everyone that are just bursting with colour, so something like the Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea cv.) makes a beautiful living bunch of flowers that will keep flowering until the end of May, then your mum can plant it out into the garden so that she can have flowers for next year.

Something stylish for mum, the sweet pink Calla Lilly (Zantedeschia Hybrid Cultivar) is a really popular cut flower, but what Dean suggests you do is put them in a pot and then your mum can have it as an indoor plant, they will last for months.

One last suggestion for a different Mothers Day gift that is a little more practical, why not get her some Garden Gurus Seedlings from the autumn range, with a choice of Broccolette Branching Broccoli to Redback Spring Onion! To find out more about the range of seedlings available follow the links from our homepage.

Happy Gardening!
