Kids Gardening

Presenter: Dean Boone

The joy of gardening is something that can be shared from a very young age. Dean remembers growing his very first packet of seeds, when he was about five with great fondness. Watching the new plant emerge from the soil then quickly grow and flower in a small patch of the garden he called his very own.

Getting kids into gardening is an important activity and its loads of fun too. Teaching the next generation about how things grow and getting our hands a bit dirty in the process has to be some of the best time we can spend with our family.

Making gardening simple is the key. Yates has a seed range that is specially designed for kids and has tones of colourful, easy to grow flowers for them to mess around with. All you need to do is spend an afternoon with them and show them how it is done.

A bit of potting mix and a scattering of seeds is all they really need to get started. You can even have some fun with water crystals, they feel like jelly. It is all about them learning and having lots fun in the process.

Garden centers across Australia also have some great kid’s activities, where they can learn all sorts of things about their very own backyards. Make some friends, make a mess and build the corner stones of an appreciation for our environment.
