Queensland Garden Lifestyle Show
Episode: #5 21/04/07
Presenter: Phil Dudman
It is amazing to think that a dangerous looking plant like pineapple can produce such a sweet and delicious fruit. Phil visits the Heritage Garden at the DPI Redlands Research Station centre and there was a time years ago when pineapples almost covered the rich fertile land of the district.
That is what these gardens are about. Every week a group of dedicated volunteers maintain a sample of traditional crops so that groups can come and learn about the horticultural heritage of the important growing area.
You have a chance to see it yourself when the DPI Redlands hosts the third annual Queensland Garden Lifestyle Show. There will be garden tours as well as 60 market-style stalls with beautiful plants as well as the latest garden and landscaping products.
There will also be garden experts on hand too with 4BC’s Col Campbell will broadcast his popular 4BC radio programme live from the show and Phil will be there to share his gardening tips. It is going to be a great day. Parking and entry is free so come and join in on the 5th of May.
If you live in Southeast Queensland there are lots more opportunities to learn about local gardening and one of Phil’s favourite things is a visit to the beautiful Roma Street Parkland. It showcases the best of what local horticulture has to offer and it is just a great place to take a stroll.
By day it is beautiful and by night just as spectacular. You also have the chance to see Roma Street Parkland in a different light. On the 27th & 28th of April the superb gardens will be lit up and transformed into an absolute wonderland for the second annual Moonlight Wine Tour.
You will love exploring the gardens by the moonlight and to make it even more pleasurable you will enjoy sampling the wines from one of the twenty different Queensland wineries stationed throughout the Parkland.
It event is a must for both wine and garden lovers alike and the cost is only $20 for online bookings.
