Edible Garden

Episode: #4 14/04/07
Presenter: Dean Boone

We all love fresh food and we all want it at our finger tips. If you haven’t grown your own herbs or veggies and tasted the difference, then you are missing out. It is really easy to do, they look great, taste amazing and best of all take up very little space to get started.

Dean decides to have some fun with it and try a few different varieties of mesculun, rocket and basil. You will have a regular supply of the freshest, most nutritious and delicious salad greens for when friends drop over on the weekend or when you come home from work. That way it is always at hand for just throwing into whatever you are cooking.

The Grow Your Own Range
from Yates is a collection of probably the most selection of herbs and vegetables. The Tomato and Basil Seedling Starter Kit also works as a great companion plant.

A sunny spot, by a window, is all you really need and the great metallic looking pots make them pretty cool too. Of course the zucchini and tomatoes will probably get planted out into a pot on the balcony but most of them will just be direct harvested straight from the kitchen.

To keep them pumping along, give them a feed with a liquid fertiliser every few weeks. This will keep them full, healthy and bursting with fresh growth to pick off and eat.

Salad in a pot is just that easy. The packs come with everything you need to have a go; good potting mix, some liquid fertilizer and pot combination to get the seeds started.

Grab one when you are next out and about and get them growing. The pots are also recyclable or you can just reuse them with another batch of seeds.
