Right now is the perfect time for planting colourful pansies in Queensland and if you get them in now, they will give you loads of colour throughout winter right up to early spring. Just a patch here and there or a few colourful pots is all you need for a quick colour makeover.

There is a huge choice of pansies available and one of special picks this year is Giant Stars of Hollywood range from Pohlmans. You will also love the names.

There is the lovely Angelina with her bright neon violet coloured blooms and dark purple markings in the center. Then there is Julia with pretty pink to lavender tones and deep lavender markings. Of course you can’t forget Meg with her cool shades of Blue.

Some of our homegrown stars get a mention too like our Nicole which features elegant Carmine Rose coloured blooms and it wouldn’t be an all-star line up without Edna with her deep velvety-purple blooms, looking as big and beautiful as a bunch of gladdies.

Growing the pansies is easy. Give them a sunny spot, morning sun is best, and enrich your soil with a generous serve of compost. Waterwise Storage Crystals come in handy too as they help to hold moisture in the soil. Feeding the pansies is also important so Thrive Granular All Purpose will give them all the nutrients they need.

Give them a bit of space, about 20cm between the plants is perfect. If you are growing them in containers use a good quality potting mix, add a little slow release fertiliser and you can’t go wrong. On top of that, treat the plants to a fortnightly feed with a soluble fertiliser like Thrive Flower and Fruit and you will be guaranteed of an award winning performance.
