Night Markets
Episode:
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane, Neville Passmore
The Meokjagolmok or food alley is within the Gwanjang market in central Seoul and is the beginning of a culinary adventure, with 200 hundred food stores preparing freshly made, ready to eat Korean Food. Koreans are nuts about fresh food and like to see it all made in front of their eyes.
There is an unbelievable array of different foods and while there is plenty of chilli you can still find heaps of food that doesn?t set your mouth on fire.
Trevor has a taste of octopus that has been boiled in salt water, with chilli, garlic and ginger. It is absolutely delicious and one of Trevor?s favourites; really rich in flavour, chewy and very fresh.
There are all sorts of foods in the market that really stimulate your taste buds and that is the great thing about the markets, you get to experience so much.
Mung bean pancakes or vegetarian pizza is made from soaked and ground seeds and a number of other tasty ingredients like onions, garlic and maybe a little bit of ginger and kimchi to make a delicious savoury meal that is full of goodness. The dipping sauce is fantastic as well, with just a little bit of soy, onion, garlic and chilli.
If you want to try something that is really different and authentic Korean then you can?t go past the sundae, which is made from pig intestine, Korean noodles, rice and some vegetables. It may not sound appetising but Trevor gives it the thumbs up!
While Trevor tastes the food delicacies, Neville made a few friends that introduced him to a delicious dish called Korean Sushimi. The fish is frozen and you dip it in chilli, a bit of wasabi and wrap it in nori or seaweed, it is absolutely gorgeous.
