Every cool vegetable garden needs a scarecrow and if you are going to go out and buy one then scarecrow competition at Ellerslie is the place to go.

There are over 43 entires from different primary schools using recycled materials and some great interpretation.

The Merit Award winner from Farm Cove Intermediate year seven and eight is absolutely beautiful with a dress made from bubble wrap.

Billy Bob, the Disco Dude won bronze from the team at Buchlands Beach Primary School.

Lucy the Scarecrow, made and planted by Year 2 children from Owairoa Primary School won the silver award. The children named her after designing and constructing her, and also learnt to care for plants.

Gold went to the team from Everglade Primary School. The year fours created a scary scarecrow that is very inventive.

To all the kids and schools involved congratulations on a great effort.
