Warran Glen

Episode:#11 11/11/06
Presenter: Melissa King

For a lot of us, cooking a meal at home starts with flipping through recipe books then nipping out to the shops for ingredients. When you grow your own fruit, vegetables and herbs the garden becomes your inspiration. At Warran Glen Garden Centre and Cafe garden fresh produce inspires magic in the kitchen.

Nothing tops growing, harvesting and eating your own fruit and veg. Its fresher, tastes better, you know how it has been grown and treated and it is cost effective, plus it is a great way to reconnect kids with the food they are eating. Right now is time to plant your summer vegies. Oasis has a great range to choose from including tomatoes, capsicums eggplants, cucumber and leafy greens perfect for summer salads. Don?t forget all those other delicious edible plants such as raspberries, grapes, kiwi fruit, and feijoa. With that lot, you will be harvesting all summer long.

It is in the caf? that the real concept of Garden to Table comes to life. Herbs are picked straight from the nursery gardens to use fresh in salads and gourmet sandwiches and the best of each season?s ripe produce is reflected in the menu. Now just to get your tastebuds watering that means dishes like Thai Beef Salad, Potato torte and warm goat?s cheese salad.

Of course there is nothing better than relaxing and entertaining friends alfresco style and they will be very impressed when you tell them you have harvested all the ingredients fresh from your own garden.

The outdoor entertaining area featured was designed by Warran Glen?s own Garden Design team and built by the Garden Company and has shelter, privacy, stylish paving and hard landscaping ? plus striking foliage plants ? all those elements to make it a perfect outdoor retreat.

Designing your garden is one thing, but great construction is the icing on the cake. The Garden Company have a reputation for fine landscaping work that brings pool areas and outdoor living spaces to life. They can even build you a pool.

Melissa can?t think of a better place to enjoy the whole garden to table concept than surrounded by stunning gardens. One of the best things about the cafe is that it is tranquil and the atmosphere is very kid friendly.

It is fantastic for a weekend breakfast and the homemade cakes are to die for. Now this is a feast for the eyes and the taste buds!
