Design Fest
Episode: #9 28/10/06
Presenter: Melissa King
It is not often you get to take a peak at a landscape designer?s garden. Like most people, Georgie Linton wants a garden that is a balance between space for her young family, and a creative look and feel of its own.
Being a landscape architect, is it a massive challenge designing your own garden?
It is a big challenge because I do design a lot of gardens that have amazing features in them like paving, or decking or water features or plants but you really have to consider your own space and your lifestyle.
So what can you do with the different spaces in your garden?
We started with the dry creek bed area and this was created as a play space for the children to a certain extent with the bulbers and the river pebbles. Also it does catch the storm water.
Then we have a walkway through that links the front and the back with brown and blue stone and drift planting is a very open and lush space. There is also the outdoor shower that is used a lot throughout summer.
The liquid lawn area out the back flows from the paving. We created some garden homes within the space and even a fairy garden. It all sits well within the space.
If you want to see Georgie?s garden, then make sure you get along to the Garden Designfest Charity Weekend on November 18 and 19th. This is just one of 30 gardens ? all by notable designers - that will be open to the public. It?s supported by the rotary club of Kew, and last year they raised some $45,000 for different charities. It is a great cause and a unique opportunity to see some of the best gardens in Melbourne.
