The Garden of Eden Nursery is just that an oasis in Albert Park that is seducing the local community into thinking and acting more sustainably through gardening.

The message is all about community, conservation and organic gardening so you will find loads of fruits, vegetables and herbs, water-wise plants, bird and animal friendly plants, and recycled outdoor furniture, all with an earth friendly theme. You can even take your old pots to be re-used or recycled.

You can also take advantage of their landscaping and design service to create a sustainable garden of your own.

For gardeners looking to cut their water use, Garden of Eden is an accredited Water Saver Garden Centre so if it is tough and beautiful plants or certified organic water saving products you are after, you will find it here.

If you want to fast track your way to a healthier lifestyle then growing your own food is definitely the way to go. Now is a great time to start, because you can plant all those yummy summer vegetables like Tomatoes, chillies, lettuces sand tasty Asian greens.

How is this for a quirky idea ? living foot stools ? old wooden boxes filled with dichondra, baby?s tears and mondo grass. Put it on your balcony so you can take your shoes off and get in touch with nature.

Garden of Eden believes that environmental education and gardens are important for our wellbeing, and promote healthier and stronger communities. Take a drive or a short walk to the other side of the railway tracks and you will see this philosophy come to life.

Garden of Eden has become a meeting place for residents and the local community who go there to gain inspiration for their own patch of paradise and share the secrets of good gardening.

The Garden of Eden also spread their message through the work of their foundation which supports community projects that promote social interaction, the protection and enhancement of the natural environment, community food gardens and revegetation.

There is an enormous need for us to be more earth friendly in the way in which we garden and The Garden of Eden is certainly at the forefront of this exciting movement, so get there and share the enthusiasm. Melissa will also be in there on Sunday the 22nd of October between 1 and 3 to answer your gardening questions.
