Presenter: Phil Dudman
A great way to keep kids happy and healthy is to get them out in the garden. It the perfect opportunity to spend quality time together and share your love of watching things grow.
Kids love to grow things they can eat and nothing tastes better than home-grown, so they get to enjoy learning about healthy eating at the same time.
Strawberries are always an excellent choice and they will reward kids with a quick harvest. The ?sweetheart? variety from Pohlman?s Gourmet Selection is really easy to grow and they come in advanced 4 cell punnets, which is a very economical.
Perpetual Lettuces give kids an even quicker harvest and they will just love going out with pride to pick leaves for school lunches and family salads.
Tomatoes are a rich source of Vitamin C and A and Pohlman?s Sugar Snack tomatoes are an easy to grow and high yielding cherry variety that are irresistibly sweet. Just imagine their eyes light up when they harvest their first juicy ripe fruit.
Kids love growing seedlings too because they get so much satisfaction watching them germinate. Sunflower seeds come up really quickly so they are a good one to start on. ?Finding Nemo Diddly Squat Mixed Daisies' seeds from Yates are fun and easy to grow. You can plant them in pots or straight into the garden. Just firm them down gently and keep them moist. They will be popping their heads up in no time.
A cubby or fort made by The Wombat Group is a magical place for children where they can spend hours playing with friends in the safety of their own backyard, just the thing to let go after a big day in the garden. It is good to know, they are made with Arsenic free treated pine, which means they arere moisture and termite resistant but most importantly they are kid safe.
They are elevated too so you can add on all those fun extras like slides, scramble nets and a fireman?s pole. Pop a sandpit in the shady spot underneath and you have the ultimate fun centre for kids.
If you are after something for the whole family, then the Wombat Group produce a range of attractive Balinese Thatches that will bring your backyard to life and give you a cool shady spot to relax together.
That is just a few ideas to get out into the garden with your kids and encourage a healthy and happy lifestyle for the whole family.
