Lawn Care
Episode: #3 16/09/2006
Presenter: Paul Hoffman
If you want to get your lawn looking great for summer, then now is the time to get in and give your patch some attention.
Start with the soil. In many parts of the yard, constant traffic makes the soil really compact.
Just like any plant, turf needs a little air around the roots to grow well so you need to aerate the soil every so often with a trusty old garden fork. Just plunge it into the soil and move it back and forth across those heavily compacted areas.
If you have a big area that needs attention, think about hiring a professional with a coring machine as they will get the job done in no time.
One of the great benefits in aerating your entire lawn is that when it rains, the water penetrates deep into the soil. That encourages a much deeper root system so that your turf stays greener during dry times.
Lawns need regular feeding to maintain good health and it is important to know what fertiliser to use, how much to throw on and how often. Yates Lush Lawn Master is a terrific new product that makes feeding your lawn easy. It is a slow release lawn food that delivers a steady flow of the right balance of nutrients over three months. Added to it is a wetting agent as well, which helps water and nutrients penetrate a dry soil sending them directly to the root system.
Spring is also a good time to lay new turf and fix up patches in your lawn. You check out one of the super hardwearing turf varieties from Jimboomba Turf Company.
