Neville shares his tips for feeding citrus trees in spring, explaining where their feeder roots are found and how applying the right fertiliser can support healthy growth and quality fruit.

• Spring feeding – Spring is an important time to feed citrus trees as they enter their main growing period following harvest.
• Target the feeder roots – Fine citrus feeder roots form a dense network in the top 30–45cm of soil, with the greatest concentration found around the edge of the tree’s canopy.
• Feed the soil – Neville prefers biological fertilisers containing beneficial microbes and a broad range of minerals to support healthy soil and plant growth.
• Water it in – Apply the fertiliser beneath the canopy, then water it in immediately to help activate the beneficial microbes.
