Waterwise School – Woodvale Primary

Episode: # 27 01/12/07
Presenter: Sue McDougall

As the weather warms up its crucial that we take a little extra care of our gardens to make better use of the water that is going on it. It is the difference between a garden that thrives and grows through summer and one that struggles with many plants dying.

Applying a 10cm thick layer of mulch on any bare areas of soil and the use of sub surface reticulation are top priorities for saving water.
Woodvale Primary garden has all of this and more and is a continuing project that has included the whole school, which led Woodvale Primary School to win the Waterwise Schools award in 2006.

Their garden is proof that when a group come together and have a passion to create a gorgeous garden anything can happen. Waterwise gardening is the way of the future and there is so much information available to help you along the way.

An excellent place to start is the Water Corporation website www.watercorporation.com.au where you will find information on over two thousand waterwise plants suitable for Perth Gardens.

Another way to save water is by picking up a copy of the latest Garden Guru newspaper, its packed full of Waterwise garden ideas and you could have the chance to win a Simpson washing machine and garden safe washing powder. You can get your hands on a copy from selected Garden Centres or your local Mitre 10 store.
