What to Do
Episode: # 9 02/06/07
Presenter: Phil Dudman
Gardeners in rural areas understand the value of recycling precious water but imagine a system that takes all of your household wastewater; we are talking sewage, kitchen, laundry, bathroom the lot and turns it into clean, safe irrigation water that is sent to your garden automatically. Well, Phil has discovered such a system and it has been developed in Queensland.
It is called the Biolytix® Wastewater Treatment System and it is the most compact and efficient system of its kind on the market. A normal septic/sand filter system would have to be 20 times the size to produce the same quality and volume of useable irrigation water.
What is important is that there are no harmful chemicals used and no expensive mechanical blowers to run and repair which makes it an economical option. The unique Biolytix system is based on a natural filtration process that has worked effectively in nature since the dawn of time
Essentially, it is an eco-system in a tank and this is how it works:
The first layer filters and separates the solids where worms and millions of micro-organisms break down the waste and turn it into humus, which then becomes part of the cleansing filter. In effect, it turns the problem that is the waste, into the solution. Isn’t nature clever!
The remaining wastewater continues on through three additional filter layers leaving the water clean and ready to be pumped into subsurface irrigation and the whole process takes only 30 minutes.
The Biolytix Wastewater Treatment System relies only on this natural process, it needs just 1 service per year unlike mechanical systems, which can require servicing up to 4 times annually and with few moving parts there is none of that annoying hum that comes with many systems.
It is incredibly resilient too and unlike septics and aerated treatment systems it can handle the kind of shock loadings you can get when the tribe moves in at Christmas time and there is no smell! It can cope with typical household chemicals too because the effects are largely neutralized by the design.
It has won a stack of awards here and overseas and Biolytix are so confident about their system they offer a 20 year guarantee. Even if you have an existing septic installed, you can upgrade now with a new Biolytix retrofit which will save you money.
