Our Itinerary…
Day 2 Sunday
Up two hours before sunrise, we made the 45 minute trek with all our gear to the top of the Wineglass Bay lookout http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/natparks/freycinet/map1.html to shoot Paul’s first story. What a sunrise. And it just goes to show why Wineglass Bay is known as one of the world’s best beaches.
The second camera ventured out to Cape Tourville Lighthouse
http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/recreation/shortwalks/cape_tourville.html to capture the colour of the magnificent granite cliffs as the sun rose over the Tasman Sea.
Once Paul got his story, the crew rendezvoused back at the Lodge to have a late breakfast, a yawn and a coffee. All agreed the effort in reaching the lookout for sunrise was more than worthwhile (and made for eye-catching television as well).
To add to our appreciation of the park, Duncan Sinclair and the crew at Freycinet Sea Cruises showed us the natural beauty from the comfort of their eco adventure catamaran the Schouten Passage. With a few different tours on offer, this has to be the best way to put your hiking experiences of Freycinet National Park into perspective.
The next assignment today was an unexpected jewel of a story, Freycinet Marine Farm. The owner of the farm, Giles Fisher, made us feel extremely welcome and no request from the crew was too much for Giles. So much so that he ended up wading with Paul, pushing the crew around his oyster leases in a barge!
And we have never seen larger, more succulent healthy oysters. Back on dry land we were lucky enough to head back to Giles’ “cellar door” where you can try (and buy) his maritime offerings.
Unfortunately Neville missed out on the (not so) little gourmet delicacies as he arrived late in the afternoon for his stories the next day, but we had another surprise for the green thumbed gourmand up our collective sleeves…
