Bulbs in Pots
Episode: #5 21/04/07
Presenter: Dean Boone
Hands up who loves flowering bulbs in a pot. Of course the answer is just about everyone. Well don’t wait until spring and realise that it has all been too little, too late. Now is the time to do it if you want fragrant blooms and loads of colour. You can even bring them indoors.
To create a huge display of colour, all you have to do is grab your favourite pot, favourite bulbs and some good quality bulb potting mix.
Pour it in and plant the bulbs at the depth recommended on the pack. If you are planting Tulips then throw them in the crisper of your fridge for about 6 weeks, then plant away.
Even if you don’t plant the bulbs at the right depth most will tolerate it. Don’t worry about getting it perfect, just so long as you have a go. Even get the kids involved and let them watch their own bulbs grow.
Dean uses the Jonquil (Narcissus jonquil acv); they will be beautiful to look at, very, very fragrant and are really hard to kill. It is a bulb for the blackest of thumbs. Even if they go in at the wrong depth, they still seem to grow.
The pots Dean uses are going to display the bulbs to their very best. The Tuscan Pots have a good depth and also a nice broad rim. Perfect for bulbs and they make it easy to display and easy to carry, indoors or out.
These guys want to burst into life and are just waiting for some sweet potting mix, sun and water to literally spring into action. Yates have all the best quality ingredients for success and you can feed your little baby bulbs with the very best bulb food as well
Have some fun, plant colours you love and be rewarded with living pots of colour in spring for your home. Guaranteed smiles all round, so get started.
