Red Fountain

Episode: New Zealand Ellerslie International Flower Show

Presenter:Trevor Cochrane

Trevor thinks the red fountain cordyline (Cordyline australis ?red Fountain?) could possibly be the best new plant release seen anywhere in the world in the past ten years.

It is a New Zealand bred cordyline and what is unique about its compact basal clumping habit. Normally they would grow up on a stem but this one stays nice and compact. It is used extensively in landscaping for its foliage, it is architectural and it has a lovely colouring.

One of the best features is also the flowers stems, which are smothered in beautiful little soft lilac flowers and they look great through the summer months. It is tough as nails, can handle extreme cold as well as really strong heat and it will grow just about anywhere.
