Vegetable Garden Preparation - Moisture Work Plus

Episode: #9 28/10/2006
Presenter: Neville Passmore

Growing vegetables is something Neville just loves to do and he is particularly proud of the unique varieties we have managed to find for our Garden Gurus range. Now one of the keys to successful home vegetable patches is the dirt.

Last week Neville introduced a new soil improver for turf today but now he introduces Moisture Work Plus, to prepare a garden bed before planting out seedlings.

Apply up to 2.5 kg per square metre and you are best to lightly cultivate it into the top 10cms.

The fine ash at the centre of this product has been enhanced with a beneficial bacteria and an organic activator to get your soil popping with life.

The particles are tiny and act to bridge the spaces between sand particles, which improves the water holding abilities of sand, the material also holds moisture in its own right. Being a chemical magnet the Moisture Works Plus grabs hold of plant food and stops it leaching to waste as water moves down through the soil.

This can also be applied to pots to improve moisture holding. Added a wetting agent means that water is well distributed through the mix.

Plant out your seedlings directly into the mix and your new vegetable patch is under way. You can also apply it to existing beds.

Broccolette is a branching broccoli with superb flavour in the stem and the heads. We have three new onions specifically developed to go crackers in summer so they can be harvested in the salad season. For salads our sweet leaf lettuce Baby Butter just melts in your mouth

With warming weather your new vegetables are ready to leap into new growth get planting tomorrow
