Waterwise Design

Episode: WA Garden Gurus Special - Summer Gardens
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

When it comes to explaining the principles behind a waterwise garden, there is no better way than to take you into one.

Neil and Jenny Delmarge from Naturescape Landscaping have been designing beautiful gardens in WA for over 20 years.

All their gardens are environmentally friendly, but most importantly they are family friendly.

Neil and Jenny think that watering our gardens once a week or even once a fortnight is ideal and in their designs they try to set out to create a garden that is not high intensity or requiring a huge amount of water.

It is even possible to have a beautiful green lawn in a water wise garden, contrary to what most people believe. Dogs and kids need a little bit of lawn, even if it just a small patch. Neil and Jenny leave their lawn to grow higher in the summer as a garden should rest in the heat of the summer.

Neil and Jenny?s garden is a great design because you can relax in it, entertain with friends and it is great for the family. There is a serious amount of hard design in waterwise gardening and not just in terms of planting; the uses of spaces, an area for the kids and an isolated pool area for access to the whole garden.

Neil and Jenny?s garden are a great inspiration to show that you can have a garden that you can live in and enjoy and relax that is not high maintenance. Most importantly of course is that it is waterwise.
