At the nursery they know exactly what roses like and if you don't give them perfect growing conditions which include full sun, fertiliser to keep them healthy and produce flowers, regular water and low humidity then your plant will suffer.

Even then pests like aphids, mites and caterpillars will find your beautiful rose bush hard to resist. Roses are also prone to many diseases including Black spot , Powdery mildew and rust.

It is a never ending battle and if you are winning and your neighbour has a rose plant with all or some of the above its only a short distance over the fence to your healthy rose and a new home for the bugs and diseases.

You can stop them in their tracks with a new product on the market called Rose Shield. It is for both roses and ornamentals is systemic which means that it is very effective in getting rid of the bugs and diseases because the poison is absorbed by the plant. So when the pest decides to make a meal of your rose bush they will die. It also kills on contact.

Another advantage is that it won?t wash off if it rains, after it has been absorbed by the plant and instead of using a variety of different products Rose shield controls both bugs and diseases.

The best way to hit the bugs on the head is with a spray unit and unless you plan of blitzing the whole garden a small spray bottle will do the job. You should never mix up more than you need and the Yates 2 Litre Maxi spray bottle is a pretty handy size to carry around.
