Air Date: 25 April 2026
Matt visits a community garden with a unique design which commemorates our ANZAC heroes.
- The Anzac Park Community Garden is located in Cammeray on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, within Anzac Park at the corner of Ernest Street and Anzac Avenue.
- The garden officially opened in March 2019 following strong community support and involvement in its design and construction.
- It features 13 raised vegetable beds and four dedicated herb beds, surrounded by fruit trees, bushes, and vines.
- The layout is uniquely designed to reflect the Australian Army’s Rising Sun badge, linking the garden to the park’s ANZAC heritage.
- The garden is run collectively, with no individual plot members share responsibilities such as watering, fertilising, pest control, and seed sowing.
- Organic gardening practices are used, relying on natural methods like soaps, oils, and beneficial bacteria instead of chemical treatments.
- A large composting system recycles green waste on-site, turning it into nutrient-rich compost for the garden beds.
- The space is designed to be inclusive and educational, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds, with features like raised wicking beds and learning areas for children.
